This is the perfect silk knotting cord for almost any 6-8mm gemstone beads and often works well with 4mm & 10mm size beads as well. It comes with a needle attached so will fit through a normal bead hole twice (ideal for the mala guru bead) or gemstones with smaller holes (common with pearls, amber and sometimes lapis and other stones).

Description 

This silk knotting cord is ideal for most 6-8mm gemstone beads and often works well with 4mm & 10mm size beads as well. This cord is soft, without any wax or coating and since it comes with a needle attached, it squeezes through smaller holes better than some other common mala knotting cords of the same size.

Griffin silk beading cord is 100% silk with a twisted stainless steel needle at the end, which saves threading time & frustration. Doubling the thread is unnecessary, and the cord can be easily knotted because the thread has the correct twist. (please note, doubling the thread also makes it too short to knot a 108 bead mala)

Each card contains approximately 79 inches (2 meters) of cord.

Some tips and notes:
– I use size 10 for nearly all of my malas & knotted jewelry. Malas typically use 6-8mm size beads.
– you can squish the needle hole flat if the needle doesn’t fit through a bead with a small hole
– silk thread has a natural stretch to it, that can be a good thing since it will stretch before breaking, but you can pre-stretch the thread before using it to reduce the natural stretching over time. It’s also best to knot between each bead or few beads with silk. That way the natural stretching will be more evenly distributed and not very noticeable.
– the white thread can be dyed any color you want! Just use proper dye for silk and you’ll get great results.

Color Guide:
Some of the naming of colors is a bit off in my opinion, so here’s a little more explanation on some that aren’t quite what I would name them:
Jade is light green
Green is a darker emerald green
Turquoise is a light blue
Coral is orange
Cornelian is an orangish brown or a burnt orange
Amber is dark yellow

    Nice silk cord.. It does come wrapped around the cardboard, so there are dents in the cord. Going to try to smooth those out, because the necklace I'm making exposes quite a bit of the silk cord.
